Bio

Phil is junior ChemE on the team from Shrewsbury, MA. He also conducts bioplastics research in a polymer processing lab on campus, is involved in Greek life, and was an orientation assistant. Phil has the energy of a golden retriever and believes in the philosophy of “the big dumb”: switching off one’s brain in everything except for knowledge of rowing power and form in order to go jungle rules speedy fast at all times.

Sophomore Year: Rowed on the V8 in Fall 2019 and Spring 2020. This year included sitting 4-seat at Head of the Charles 2019 and finishing 3rd overall in Bucknell’s Erg Armageddon challenge before the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the rest of the Spring 2020 season. Named to the 2020 ACRA All-Academic First Team.

First Year: Rowed on the V8 the full year, including sitting 5-seat at the Head of the Charles in Oct 2018 and usually 2-seat in the V8 for races in Spring 2019 races, winning the MARC championship and finishing 10th place at the ACRA championship. Phil set the Bucknell lightweight freshmen 2k record, and was one of 9 rowers in the conference named to the 2019 ACRA All-Freshmen team.

Before Bucknell: Captain of the Bancroft School Varsity Cross Country and Crew teams. In XC, he was named EIL League All-Star and NEPSAC All-League both junior and senior year. In crew, Phil was named to the 2018 USRowing Scholastic Honor roll and qualified for the NEIRA Championship stroking the 2V4 in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, he stroked the V4 that finished the season with a 22-1 win-loss record, winning the Davidson Cup regatta and the Worcester Mayor’s Cup championship along the way.

Phil has a younger brother Max who rows at WPI and a younger sister Tori who is a pretty cool chiller.

Favorite rowing call: The Mango “No You” power move.
