Hailing from Bancroft School in MA, Phil Onffroy joins the team as a recruit experienced in sweep rowing on fours. In high school, Phil was captain of the Varsity Crew and Cross Country teams.

In XC, he was named EIL League All-Star and NEPSAC All-League both junior and senior year. In crew, Phil was named to the 2018 USRowing Scholastic Honor roll and qualified for the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association (NEIRA) Championship stroking the varsity 2nd four in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, he stroked the varsity 1st four that finished the season with a 22-1 win-loss record, winning the Davidson Cup regatta and the Worcester Mayor’s Cup championship along the way.

Origin story: Once back in the ye ol village of Shrewsbury, MA, a wise, tall individual named The Condor approached him on the shores of Lake Quinsigamond and introduced him to the ways of the oar. After weeks of guidance on how to yank the chains, fly across the water, and stretch his hamstring, Phil was deemed ready to row. Thus, The Condor and his disciples led young Philip to the secluded Bancroft Tower hill and with great moxie bestowed upon him a uni, a blade of oar, a sip of magic juice, and blessings of good set. With that, Phil “El Lobo” Onffroy began his days on the water.

Outside of rowing, Philip is an aspiring chemical engineer and comes from living with his parents, younger brother Max aka “Chestnuts”, younger sister Tori, and dog Farrah. Phil enjoys watching NFL football, researching real estate, and playing frisbee. He can often be found deep in thought contemplating whether to be called Phil, Philip, Phan, Philly, or Philapeño.
