Bucknell Hosts Lehigh for First Race of Season

Saturday morning, Bucknell hosted Lehigh for a series of races on the Susquehanna River. Having not competed since the fall of 2019, both teams agreed to make the most of the opportunity by racing 5×5′ rather than a quick 2000m. The first piece was rate capped at a 22 and the third a 24. All other pieces were open rate with a still start. The Bucknell Varsity 8+ won all three open rate pieces but dropped both that were rate capped. Rough margins from what was captured on film can be read below:

Piece #1 (Rate 22 on the fly)

Lehigh 1v > Bucknell 1v w/ decks overlapping

Piece #2 (Open rate w/ start)

Bucknell 1v > Lehigh 1v by 6 seats of open water

Piece #3 (Rate 24 on the fly)

Lehigh 1v > Bucknell 2v by 6 seats of closed water > Bucknell 1v w/ decks overlapping on Lehigh

Piece #4 (Open rate w/ start)

Bucknell 1v > Lehigh 1v by 5 seats of open water

Piece #5 (Open rate w/ start)

Bucknell 1v > Lehigh 1v by 6 seats of open water > Bucknell 2v by one length

This weekend the team heads to New York where it will compete against Ithaca College, an opponent that will certainly make the men dig the well. In Spring 2019, Bucknell narrowly edged out Ithaca in the 1v & 2v categories.

Thanks to Lehigh for making the trip and to those who made their presence known from the Sunbury shore.
