Cayuga Duals

Bucknell Men’s 1V racing Ithaca College at the 2019 Cayuga Duals.

Bucknell Men’s Crew traveled to Ithaca, NY once again for the annual Cayuga Duals. Hosted by Ithaca College, the Bison would by joined by Ithaca College, Cornell Lwts, Hobart, and Johnson & Wales. The duals consist of two-boat races in the morning with the results determining the pairings for the afternoon. This year, like all years past, Bucknell would pull up to the start to face Cornell Lwts in every event for the morning. Conditions on the inlet were absolutely ideal this day, with a slight tail wind picking up towards the last few events.

The 1V race took off to a high start, with the crew moving the boat neck and neck with Cornell. Coming into the second 500, Bucknell managed to take a few seats on Cornell before entering into the bridges. Cornell was able to make up the margin and pull back away at a steady pace to take the win (6:46) over Bucknell (6:05). This would send the 1V to see Ithaca College in the afternoon race where they had an even better race to take the win (5:56) over Ithaca (6:00).

In the Men’s 2V event, Bucknell (6:09) would fall to Cornell (5:51) and move on to race Ithaca. In another well raced course by both crews, Bucknell (6:12) came out victorious over Ithaca (6:17).

The Men’s 3V, facing similar fate for their morning race, finished with a time of 6:31 behind Cornell (6:01). Unlike the other Bucknell 8s, the 3V8 moved to race Johnson & Wales in the afternoon race. The Bison took a very open lead and had open water by the first 250. Bucknell would finish in 6:19 over Johnson & Wales (7:23).

The MV4 event was the only 3 boat event for Bucknell and only raced once. Having the closet margins of the day, Cornell (7:01) took the win, with Ithaca (7:10) and Bucknell (7:12) falling in behind.

Up next for the Bison is a big weekend of racing! On Saturday, April 6th, the team will be traveling to Bald Eagle State Park for the 2019 Faunce Cup against Penn State and Army. On Sunday, April 7th, Bucknell will head out to Lake Nockamixon to race hosts Lehigh with Mercyhurst and Lafayette in another Duals setup.
