One of the instrumental figures in Bucknell Crew's history, Jimmy was head
coach of Bucknell Crew from 1992-1996. Perhaps Jimmy's greatest accomplishment during that time
was the fact that he was largely responsible for making what had been a good, but at the national
level non-competative program, to successfully coaching several crews that were competative at the
national level. Jimmy graduated from Bucknell in 1990, coached the
novice Men's team from 1990-1992, and took over as head coach in 1992. Today's Bucknell Varsity Men
still row on the "Jimmy King" a boat named in his honor, after he left the team in 1996.
Today Jimmy coaches the women's team at Georgetown University where he's built on some of the
successes he had at Bucknell. In 1998 he again won Gold at the Championship Regatta, this time
with Georgetown's Men's Heavyweight 8. In recognition of Jimmy's long and successful coaching career
in 2001, Jimmy was asked by the US national team to coach the women's lightweight pair. Not
surprisingly, given Jimmy's past successes, that pair won Silver at the FISA world rowing championship,
closely missing the gold medal.
